Finding Inspiration

I think one of the hardest parts about blogging is when you get into a rut.
In times where you feel uninspired & unmotivated, it’s easy to want to give up and quit blogging.

Or is that just me?
And maybe am I just being dramatic?

I don’t think so.
I think it happens to a lot of us more than we’d like to admit.
As bloggers, we can pull off this image that we are post-writing fiends, always have the best topics and stories to share without missing a beat.
But in reality, that probably isn’t the case.
At least, not for me. And I’m guessing not for a lot of people either.

So what do you do when you get into ruts like this?
When you feel completely uninspired?
When you think that whatever you write won’t be of good quality?

Let me share some tips that help me get back on track, out of my rut,
and actually love blogging again!

1. Get outside, step into nature, and make your own discoveries!
{Do you have little kids that watch Dinosaur Train? Cause they inspired me for that quote :)}

Going outside & doing something does wonders for your inspiration and your mood!
On days where I feel most irritable and frustrated, my husband knows that I just need to get out of the house and do something fun.
Watching my son play in grass, walking around the neighborhood, hiking up the canyon, visiting the local museums, going on a run [just kidding I don’t run]…
all things that help get my creative juices flowing!

2. Make something

I’m sure you all read other blogs that highlight a project they did or a recipe they made.
Or you are stalking Pinterest to get project ideas.
Well instead of just looking, actually do it!
Use the time to master a project or even come up with your own spin on a craft or recipe.
And then share your own projects online!

3. Read

Whether it’s reading other blogs, news articles, or books, READING really helps me feel inspired and motivated to write my own stories.
Something that helped me start reading again was joining a book club last fall and I have absolutely loved it!
Since I had just graduated college, it had been a while that I picked up a book just for fun instead of a boring textbook.
I have been able to read a lot of books that I otherwise probably wouldn’t have paid much attention to.
And they have all helped motivate me in my own writing.

Check with your local library to see if they have suggested reading lists to get your love for reading started again.
Or start a book club with your friends to help encourage one another to read.
Or just pick up a book now and start reading it!
Honestly, reading is a great way to relax, rejuvenate, and renew your blogging ambitions!

4. Turn the computer off!
[I don’t have a picture representing cause, well, I was off the computer :)]

I guess the first three could all be summed up into this: just get off the computer!
You may think staring at a blank screen will help a post magically appear but you would be terribly wrong.
Staying on my computer just distracts me and then frustrates me more.
It’s like staring at the blank screen just solidifies my failure of not being able to come up with a decent post.

So turn that thing off!!
Go spend time with your family, play with your kids, clean the house, do an art project,
just do something that doesn’t involve a computer screen.
And more likely while you are taking time to be off of the computer, something happened that you can’t wait to write about and voila! you have your inspiration!

5. Spend time with the ones you love

And finally, it is also important to spend time with the people that probably inspire you the most: your family!
I know that  my family is my biggest source of inspiration!
When I forget about blog-land and deadlines and just spend time with them, I am able to come up with multiple ideas for articles and actually get ahead of schedule.

I hope these 5 tips will help you when you are stuck in a blogging rut.
Writing posts is a lot harder than people think {in my opinion} and we can all use some help for inspiration!

What are some things you do to get inspired & motivated for posts?
What helps you get out of your writing rut?
I would love to hear your ideas!
