I’d like to say I’m a pro at all of these things, but I’m not. Something I struggle with is making (not finding) time for myself. I always have time to do it, I just choose to do other things with that time. A lot of the time it feels selfish and unnatural for me to do things for myself so it slides to the back-burner until I absolutely need it. And when I absolutely need it, it’s never enough.

So today I wanted to share five easy things for you to do for yourself right now. Even if you only have a couple minutes here and there, do it. And do it because you know that you’re worth it.

1. Remove the negativity

Surround yourself with positive energy and supportive friends. Get rid of those that don’t encourage you or genuinely love the person that you really are. And when you’re done removing the negative energy from your life, focus on making sure your thoughts are reflective of the positive vibes you want those around you to be sending to you. Think about what you can do, not what you can’t do. Think about who you want to be, not who you aren’t. Think about your accomplishments, not your mistakes.

2. Treat yourself as an equal

Do you talk to yourself like you talk to a friend? If you made the same mistake that they did, would you give them the same answer that you give yourself? Or would you be be harsher on yourself and more understanding with a friend? You deserve the same understanding and kindness that you would give to a friend or a loved one. Know that your needs matter just as much as their needs matter, if not more. Once you treat yourself as an equal and meet your own personal needs, it becomes much easier to help meet the needs and wants of the ones you love and cherish.

3. Appreciate just how far you’ve come

Stop looking ahead at where you think you need to get to and look at what you’ve already accomplished. Focus on what you already have, what you’ve already done, and what you’ve lived through. More often than not, the bar of excellence raises before we even get to our next goal so we never get to truly celebrate our successes. Take some time to look at everything you’ve succeeded with so far in your life and forget about what you want to succeed with later on in life.

4. Embrace everything

Embrace the new people you meet. Embrace your dreams that are just waiting for your to chase them. Embrace yourself. Embrace happiness. Embrace your wants and your needs. Embrace everything in your life or else you’ll lose it. You’re as ready as you’ll ever be for new things to enter your life so just go for it. Take hold of the new opportunities that come your way every chance you get. You’ll learn to love life and realize just about anything is possible if you’re willing to embrace it and everything that it has to offer.

5. Grow

Practice forgiveness and let go of the burden holding onto your heart from poor decisions. This goes for the decisions others have made as well as the ones you have made. Nearly every situation has a silver lining and it’s up to you to decide if you want to see it. We choose our emotions when it comes to how we deal and cope with life’s situations. So choose to grow as we stumble through life without a handbook and focus on moving forward instead of holding on to things in life that we cannot change.

Today’s Thought: It’s getting close to pumpkin pie ice cream time and I cannot wait to re-create Cold Stone Creamery’s Pumpkin Pie in the Sky dish. Hello graham crackers, cool whip, and pumpkin ice cream. Is it Fall yet?

  1. These are fantastic points. I especially love “Treat yourself as an equal.” I would never be as mean to a friend as I can be to myself sometimes.

  2. I just love your posts!

  3. The hardest one for me is forgiveness and letting go. I let A LOT stay on my mind even though I know it’s not good for me. I need to get over that!
